Class Notes: The purpose of the course is to provide a discussion on the economic development of Southeast Asian economies, giving an overview of the historical and contemporary factors that have shaped their experiences. Topics include colonialism and its impact on economic trajectories, the experience of industrialization, the role of democracy in economic growth and development in some of these economies, and the region's experiences with financial crises. The course will also feature some comparative discussions with East Asian economies.
